Wholesaling Benefits
This is a continuation of “The Great Escape” interview with Eric Thiele. Eric is working with Sean Terry and Flip2Freedom.com to learn how to start up a successful wholesaling business. In this section, Sean and Eric discuss the demands of Eric’s current job and how life will be different for him once he get his wholesaling business up and running.
Sean: So, to get everyone up to speed, how was your work week this week? Not when it comes to assignments or anything like that, but just your work week. Give us an idea of what happened this past week.
Eric: Well, I had four different calls at 2:00 AM, 3:00 AM, 2:00 AM, and 4:00 AM over the last week, and then Sunday I had the privilege of working from 5:00 in the morning until about 6:30 at night. And, yeah, I shouldn’t complain about having a good job.
The number of people in this country that don’t have it so bad, but, it just wears on you. Plus, when I have pager responsibility, I can’t be more than about 15 minutes from my WiFi connection at home because that’s the service level that they expect. If they hit the easy button and call to complain about something to me, I have to respond within about 15 minutes.
Sean: Wow.
Eric: So, you know, it’s basically a big leash.
Sean: Okay, so it’s 2:00 in the morning and your pager goes off. The first thing that goes through your head is, ugh, right? Because you’re all nice and snug in bed and then you have to jump up and do what?
Eric: I have to jump up and go into my computer room and, you know, my den basically.
Sean: Right.
Eric: And establish a feedcam connection to the server room back in Austin and log-in on various servers and check out whatever the problem is. You know, somebody can’t log-in, or suddenly an application doesn’t work, or, my favorite, “Hey the computer is really slow.” Well, define slow, you know?
Sean: Yeah, define slow.
Eric: Gee, it took five seconds rather than three. Tell me more. But, their server’s down or what have you. For example, this morning, when I woke up, I tried to log-in, and I couldn’t, and I called–I happened to be in Chicago today–I called back to Austin and it turned out the office building where we’re located had a power failure so all the servers went down, of course. So, it’s not a boring job, but it’s, almost on a daily basis, various things are going wrong.
Sean: So let me ask you a question. Let’s say, if you were going to say, we’ve got summer coming up here, and you were going to take off for say a month, what would have to happen for you to be able to say, “I’m going to unplug for a month and I just want to hang out on the beach, drink some cocktails, relax, maybe go on a couple boating rides, or whatever.” What would it take for you to make that happen?
Eric: I would have to be a task master at Flip2Freedom, and I would’ve had to quit my job by then.
Sean: Really?
Eric: Because there’s no way. I can’t take more than, basically, more than a week off at a time.
Sean: Wow. So, wow. That’s crazy. Wow, and. . .
Eric: And I’m looking forward to that day, Sean.
